YOUR CARE IS PROTECTED IN CONNECTICUT.
Anchor Health vehemently condemns the Trump administration’s newly released rule barring Medicaid (HUSKY A) and CHIP (HUSKY B) benefits from being used toward safe, evidence-based, and medically necessary health care for transgender young people. This is unconscionable violence against the most vulnerable of our communities – under-resourced trans youth and their families.
Decades of substantial peer-reviewed research show that trans health care for youth can significantly improve the lives of those who receive it. Every major medical association, including the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, recognizes that providing health care to trans youth is safe and effective.
Know your rights
This rule doesn’t ban trans health care for youth – it only affects how some of it is paid for. This essential care will remain legal and protected in Connecticut. It will not change the life-saving services Anchor Health provides. Your care continues.
Connecticut’s shield law protects patients and their health care providers, and state law makes discrimination against gender identity and expression illegal.
Although the rule is currently scheduled to take effect in October, we expect significant legal efforts to block or slow down its implementation. If you have questions about your care, medications, or coverage, please contact your care team. We’re here for you.
Why advocacy matters
Other states – including California, Massachusetts, and New York City – have upheld their commitments to their communities and invested resources to protect trans youth and their families. Connecticut has taken important steps to protect trans health care for young people and must do the same.
If this rule is implemented, continued public support from patients, families, providers, and community organizations will be critical to keeping care accessible.
How you can help
- Use Equality Connecticut’s toolkit to contact your legislator. Ask them if they will challenge this rule and protect gender-affirming care.
- If you’re comfortable, share your story. Personal experiences can help policymakers better understand how access to care affects individuals and families.
- Connect with Equality Connecticut to stay informed and learn about advocacy opportunities.
Everyone, including trans young people, deserves access to the health care they need. Anchor Health will continue fighting for the health equity of every trans person. We remain dedicated to working towards a future in which no one is denied their fundamental right to bodily autonomy and health care, free from political interference.
