patient & VISITOR CODE OF CONDUCT

Updated:
August 12, 2024

Anchor Health is dedicated to providing exceptional care to our patients and communities in a welcoming and respectful environment. To ensure that our space is safe, affirming, and inclusive for all, we require all patients and visitors to follow the guidelines in our Code of Conduct.

  • Treat others with respect, dignity, and kindness. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on an individual’s real or perceived race (including traits historically associated with race, such as hair texture, hair type, hair length, and hairstyles); color; national and/or ethnic origin; ancestry and/or shared ancestry; immigration status; English language proficiency; age; religion and/or creed; disability (including record of disability); sex (including sex stereotypes and sex characteristics); gender, gender identity, and/or gender expression; physical appearance (including body size); affectional or sexual orientation; pregnancy and related conditions; parental, familial, and marital status; military or veteran status; genetic information; HIV status; the intersection of these aforementioned identities; and any other identity marker.
  • Communicate politely and respectfully. Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, intentional misgendering, derogatory, or demeaning speech and behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Be patient and understanding when communicating with others. Remember that other people’s experiences, perceptions, and ways of processing information may be different from your own.
  • We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of sexual harassment including, but not limited to, making sexual remarks or advances, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual attention, following, stalking, or harassing photography or recording.
  • No violence, threats of violence, or violent language directed against another person.
  • Respect people’s names, identities, and pronouns at all times. Using the correct name and pronouns is a basic sign of respect. Anchor Health provides pronoun stickers in our waiting rooms, and we encourage everyone to wear one while visiting Anchor Health. Staff have their pronouns on their ID badge.
  • Avoid making assumptions. If you don’t know what pronouns to use for someone, just ask or look at their sticker or ID badge. If you accidentally use the wrong pronouns, apologize quickly and move on. Take extra care not to repeat the mistake.
  • Don’t question or challenge someone’s stated self-identity or chosen labels, even if they conflict with your views.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of other patients and visitors. No deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent.
  • Don’t take any audio or video recordings of in-person or telehealth appointments, conversations, or any other activities of Anchor Health unless expressly authorized by staff (e.g., as an accommodation for a disability) and with the consent of everyone involved.
  • Be thoughtful of the sensory sensitivities that other people may have and respect quiet and comfortable spaces. This includes not wearing excessive perfumes, oils, or other scents.
  • Don’t bring weapons inside Anchor Health. If your job requires you to carry a weapon, you must alert the front desk staff and keep it out of sight.
  • Don’t bring, use, sell, or distribute alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs into Anchor Health or enter under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
  • Don’t smoke, vape, or use any tobacco product in Anchor Health.
  • Don’t bring pets or non-service animals into Anchor Health. If someone has a service animal, don’t pet, offer food to, or interact with it in any way.
  • Respect Anchor Health’s property and other people’s property.

If you witness or experience unacceptable behavior, please report it to a member of your care team. We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping Anchor Health provide high-quality care to our communities.
