PHarmacy FAQ

See below for some commonly asked questions about our pharmacy.

If you have a question you can’t find the answer to, please call 203-660-0010 to speak with a pharmacist.

Health care for all starts with you. Our pharmacy is integrated with our clinical practice, meaning our pharmacists specialize in the medications and care our community needs. As a queer-centered pharmacy, we ensure every patient is treated with respect, including using the correct name and pronouns.

Fill your meds, fuel our mission. When you use Anchor Health Pharmacy, you’re helping ensure our services are accessible and affordable to LGBTQ people, including those who are uninsured/underinsured. All pharmacy profits go back into funding the groundbreaking, radically inclusive, gender-affirming and sex-positive medical, mental health, and pharmacy care we are known for.

Our pharmacy accepts Medicaid/Husky, Medicare, and most major pharmacy insurance plans. If you have questions regarding your specific plan, please call 203-660-0010. If you’re uninsured or underinsured, we’ll work with you on finding medication assistance programs.

We never turn patients away due to inability to pay. Because 40% of our patients are on Medicaid/Husky or Medicare, pharmacy revenue helps offset the losses we take when the programs reimburse us below cost. By using our pharmacy, you help us continue providing life-saving care to those who need it the most.

We have a physical pharmacy in our Stamford Health Center, but we also offer bundled pick-ups at our Hamden Health Center as well as nationwide mail-order service with discreet packaging and flexible shipping options.

We can provide 30-day or 90-day supplies with the option to auto-ship, so you never run out of your medications and supplies. We can ship:

  • Directly to your door in discreet packaging
  • To a UPS Access Point for extra security
  • Addressed to the name that makes you feel safest

No, most packages do not require a signature. The only exceptions are for controlled substances (Schedule II medications) and for Medicare patients in Connecticut, as required by law.

No, your out-of-pocket costs are typically the same as what you currently pay.

Pricing disclaimer: While we strive to keep medication costs as affordable as possible, we cannot guarantee that your prescriptions will be the same price or cheaper than what you currently pay. Pricing depends on several factors, including your specific medication, insurance coverage, and pharmacy benefit manager policies. We encourage patients to check with our pharmacists directly regarding pricing concerns and available options.

Quickly and easily switch to our pharmacy by submitting our prescription transfer form or calling 203-660-0010 for assistance over the phone. We can fill prescriptions from providers outside Anchor Health, too.

While any shipping has an environmental impact, major corporate pharmacies cause far more harm due to wasteful packaging and unsustainable practices. We focus on minimizing waste while ensuring safe, discreet, and timely deliveries.

When disposing of your used needles and syringes, you should follow these steps.

  1. Place sharps in puncture-resistant, hard plastic or metal containers that you can’t see through. Use empty bleach or detergent bottles with screw-on caps or tightly sealed lids. Or an empty coffee can will do.
  2. Seal the container with its original lid and wrap with duct tape.
  3. Place the tightly sealed container in a paper bag and discard with your household trash – not in your recycling bin. Prior to disposal, it is recommended that you disinfect your sharps in a solution of 1 teaspoon bleach in a 1/2 gallon water.
