Our Name

We’re just Anchor Health now. It’s nice to meet you!

We no longer use “Anchor Health Initiative.” Since our founding in 2016, we have grown significantly. “Initiative” didn’t feel like the right fit anymore. Our name now reflects our role as Connecticut’s leading LGBTQ health center. It also positions us for the future.

Our legal name is “Anchor Health Initiative Corp.”

  • Capitalize when using the full name of the program
  • Do not capitalize if talking generally about case management, case management services, or case managers.

Gender & Life-Affirming Medicine (GLAM) Program

  • Use full program name with acronym in parenthesis on first reference. Use “GLAM” or “GLAM Program” on subsequent references.
  • Capitalize when referring to the program, otherwise, don’t capitalize “gender-affirming” or “gender-affirming medicine”
  • Always use an ampersand
  • Always hyphenate “Life-Affirming”
  • For example: AJ Eckert, DO, established our Gender & Life-Affirming Medicine (GLAM) Program in 2020. Our GLAM Program includes services such as in-person and telemedicine visits, hormone administration and monitoring, and more. Gender-affirming medicine means you are the best person to make decisions regarding your own body.

Patient Testimonials

  • “Very polite, amazing energy. These wonderful people get it. I’ve never felt more comfortable.” – Daniel
  • “Anchor Health is an organization that specializes in LGBTQ health care. The staff is excellent and understanding. You can feel free to be yourself and openly ask any questions or address any concerns about your health. Lesbians, you don’t have to deal with the “are you SURE you’re not pregnant? How do you know you’re sure?” routine. Plus, their call waiting music is phenomenal. I highly suggest Anchor Health for your health care needs.” – Desiree
  • “My son came out as transgender when he was 15 years old. We were referred to Anchor Health in Hamden and my son and I cannot thank them enough! My son has been going here for 3 years now and all the staff give the best care any place can give. My child feels comfortable and Anchor Health staff and their pharmacy are truly amazing. As a mom, I just want my child (no matter what age they are) to feel safe in their own skin, and I appreciate Anchor Health for that.” – Jasmine
  • “I am in awe of this office. I’ve never been comfortable in a doctor’s office—always hated going. That doesn’t apply to this office. I am excited to go in every single time I have an appointment. Everyone in this office is absolutely wonderful, some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Best doctors’ office I’ve ever been to by far and they are doing such wonderful things for the LGBTQ+ community. Absolutely love it here.” – Ryan
