Melissa Straus, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is a family psychiatric nurse practitioner. In October of 2021, Melissa joined Anchor Health and launched our behavioral health services.
Utilizing a biopsychosocial and holistic approach for patients, Melissa offers medication management with supportive therapy to patients ages 5 years and older. Melissa has extensive experience in attachment, mood, and trauma disorders, along with ADHD, anxiety, OCD, and schizophrenia.
Melissa earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Hunter College in 2014. Before coming to Anchor Health, Melissa worked at an inpatient psychiatric facility and outpatient counseling center for children, adolescents, and adults. Melissa saw patients enrolled in Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services, or IICAPS, clinical services provided in a young patient’s home and community. Through IICAPS, Melissa provided patient-centered, family-focused, strength-based, and culturally competent psychiatric care. Melissa often saw patients at risk for an inpatient psychiatric hospitalization or long-term residential facility admission.
Outside of the office, Melissa enjoys exercising (including paddle boarding, Pilates, walking, weights, and yoga), listening to audiobooks and podcasts, and taking trips with her wife, miniature dachshund Kapers, and dachshund/terrier mix Daisy.
